Welcome to the official website of
Preserving Upwood Community Action Group

The last Government’s Regional Spatial Strategy, which included the establishment of a fixed number of Gypsy and Traveller camps in Cambridgeshire was abandoned in 2011 by the new coalition government.
This meant the imminent threat of camps being set up in Upwood was removed.

The new government have recently announced their own plans for Gypsy and Traveller sites, but this will call for fewer Pitches, over a longer period and the criteria for establishing them will be changed.
Gypsy and Traveller camps in future will be smaller and located nearer to services (social, educational, health etc).

The two sites in Upwood have anyway been described as unsuitable due to ground contamination and the proximity to the gliding club in the case of the airfield site and being too close to permanent dwellings, in the case of the Longholme Road pasture.

It is therefore highly unlikely that the issue will be raised again in Upwood; but if it is the grounds for rejection are very strong.

If you require any further information or clarification then please contact Robin Howe, Chairman, Upwood and the Raveleys Parish Council.
