How To Object

MOST IMPORTANT - You must object separately to both proposed sites so this involves 2 replies. Replies must be received by 4.30pm on Friday 30th July. THE DEADLINE FOR RESPONSES TO HDC HAS NOW PASSED.

A petition of signatures merely counts as one reply so everyone must respond individually. There is no age limit for respondees.

You can register your objections to the proposals in 3 ways. Please read the General Advice below before clicking on your chosen method to take you to more specific advice:-

- via the Internet by using the HDC Planning Portal

- by email

- by letter

General Advice

The rules for objecting are very specific - there are particular areas on which you are not permitted to comment. Failure to keep to these rules will render any submission inadmissable and therefore it will not count.

Objections must not be deemed to be racist or offensive. Gypsies are regarded as a racial minority under the Race Relations Act. Generally a racist comment would be one which includes words, phrases or comments which are likely:-
- To be offensive to a particular racial or ethnic group
- To be racially abusive, insulting or threatening
- To apply pressure to discriminate on racial grounds
- To stir up racial hatred or contempt

To reiterate, any objections which the Council consider to be offensive will not be accepted.

You must also not comment on:-
- The intended user of the development(i.e. gypsies & travellers) – it is the use, not the user, which is important.
- Whether the applicant or landowner is known/unknown, liked/disliked, trusted/not trusted, local/not local.
- The right to a view over another person’s land (there is no such right in planning terms)
- Impact on property values.

You are, however, allowed to object on the following grounds:-
- Amenity: impact on neighbours - overlooking, loss of daylight, overbearing impact, noise and disturbance, pollution etc.
- Design: impact on nearby buildings, site design, street scene etc. Visual impact - is it in keeping with the surrounding area?
- Highways: suitability of access, parking, manoeuvring space, effect of traffic generation.
- Policies: are there any government policies or policies in the East of England Plan or Huntingdonshire Local Development Framework which are relevant?
- History: any previous planning permission(s) on the site or nearby.
